Elle,Crosby and Phoebe set out to check on the current status of the Allegheny River along Seybertown Road this morning 20 July 2021. Here is what they have to report and video and photo. If you haven’t been watching Allegheny Outfitters upriver regarding emergency rescues or Kinzua gauges you may want to start following both areas. It appears this crazy rain event that started last Monday really added a lot of moisture to the watershed. Based on what I’ve been […]
Heat dome in the west, hurricanes in the gulf, rivers rising with the northeast rains. Say what you may about science but here’s a picture. Guess which one is Mondays versus Wednesday if you live in Pittsburgh you know. Duke even received a mouth full of water jumping and not realizing how deep the short became with all the leaves.

Here’s a little Fourth of July photo dump. We hopefully have pulled a new generation of river rats into Knee boarding and tubing. Phoebe and Crosby are still good with just trails. They are not yet ready to swim as sisters, Phoebe tried the life jacket and an assisted doggie paddle, but didn’t enjoy the muck. This time they were able to explore the Phillipston portion of the Armstrong trail.

#Riley’sRiverRats #I’mWithCupid Aspinwall, Pennsylvania This weekend some of the river rats are going to take to the alley. You may wonder why we would strip to our undies in Pennsylvania but it’s fun in the fundraising that makes this such a special charity. I’ve been doing this since 2016 in Milwaukee. That year I ran past the bronze FONZ on the river walk. This year thanks to COVID-19 we will be distant, we will be virtual, we will be in an […]
Yes the dog is getting out in nature. The little break from heat and humidity was appreciated by the elkhound.

There were many years where Monday would be leg day: Squats, presses, leg extensions, lying leg curls, walking lunges. All those hard core bodybuilding workout items. Tuesday would be the big chest day to get full utilization of the decline, incline and flat benches. Never did I ever think going to PF and having only smith machines, matrix and hammer strength machines would be enough. Then life decided to change things up for me and being able to find a […]
If you need a minute to breathe, open this up in your browser and play the video. Just listen and take in the water. After reading about the discharge from Olean into the Allegheny sometimes being on top of the water is the better option. It sounds like Olean is not happy either since they tend to recreate in the river. After the paddle debacle at the Anything that Floats, the new ones are a little lighter. Slow river traffic […]
The water was really nice this past weekend, the wind was even more amazing as it was pushing us up river. Leslie is lucky as the little camera was left behind so she wasn’t captured digitally. We did try the Rivers Edge. The had a Really nice menu and a deck to see the river.
When the girls go away, the storms came to play. Pittsburgh became Tulsa, minus the tornadoes however Indiana, PA turned into Indiana the state a few times this past week. Route 28 turned into a swimming pool at the 31st Street Bridge and the City of Pittsburgh Swift Water Rescue went to work on Wednesday’s rush hour. Meanwhile on the Dog Front, the Elle and Ms. Crosby tried their best to nap through the storms with the help of doggy […]
Riley’s River Rats will be walking again this year in Pittsburgh on 8/25! Last year’s River Rats took a minute to take a team picture at the river. Please join us. River Rat’s Team Page
We tried to walk the trail but there was ice. We will have a new beach this summer thanks to the ice erosion. Thanks to the #icewall at the boat launch it may explain the flooding on the other side of the bridge. We are one week later and the water only has small #icecubes. If only we had a drone to video. First the tree is still hanging in there. The vegetation has been cleared between the ice and […]
