Los doce dias de octubre 2025

Here we go again with a whirlwind month of October. The constant for me in October is lots of soccer with interval miles on field turf. Then we add in the birthday of the Belle. Sprinkle in the end of boating season and river bonding during dock removal. Reflect our family impact on the fight against ALS. Finish it up with one last celebration of friends over some cider, wine and a fire.

Soccer season is in full swing- Eat, Sleep, Rave, Repeat, Eat, Sleep, Ref, Repeat. I’ve had the joy of running in games at the two of the three widest pitches in the WPIAL. As an independent contractor I’ve also departed district 7 a few times to get a broader picture of scholastic futbol. I’m learning the difference between running on slit film turf vs monofilament turf. While the rubber pellets may be contained better in the slit film turf. Personally I’ve noticed a little extra soreness in my legs the next day whether I wear turf or flat shoes.

Family time is always a little bit of fun and a little bit stressful. It does reinforce that life is precious and we should soak up those moments. There was some unplanned family time in Morgantown. We had a little Arrigo family bonding. We also discussed the current American view on healthcare and public health. There was even a PSO- Pops Concert playing the music of the American big bands and songwriters.

Healthcare in the United States can be amazing–if you are insured and can navigate how it actually works. Boat rides in October are always an added bonus. So is going to C-bus for a birthday party. If only we had time for another brunch at Hangry City.

We had some video review and reflection for one of my games. Sometimes we can even wear black. https://fcarmstrong.blog/2025/10/01/ref-life-reflection-and-video-review-using-hudl/

A view of a street scene with a person holding a sign that says 'LOVE! I CAME YOU' on one side and vehicles passing by on the road.

The Street Corner Preacherman is back on the corner at the Citizens Bridge in Kittanning. This week he is daring the drivers to Love. If you know the movie history of this bridge, this seems to be another sign of the apocalypse. If you’ve not seen Richard Gere in Mothman Prophecies, go watch it. Then we can discuss what you think of this fill in for Point Pleasant, WV.

Nothing beats a good Hooter’s birthday song.

Speaking of birthdays, guess who turned 4 this month.
