Let’s be grateful for the Locks and Dams that were built by the US Army Corp of Engineers almost 100 years ago. The 9 pools from the Point of Pittsburgh all they way up to Templeton have really helped minimize the damage in Aspinwall and downtown Pittsburgh. This weekend Phoebe took Hil down to see the water level at Lock and Dam number 2. It was raging on Saturday morning. The flow has slowed up a bit as of Sunday evening, but Laurel and the kids had barges break loose near Station Square and crash into the Lock and Dam near up river from their boat club on the Ohio River. The upcoming forecast for the 3rd week of April 2024 has more storms and more rain, so we will need to keep an eye on the river gauges again.
FYI Allegheny River Lock and Dam #1 failed and no longer exists so Lock and Dam#2 at Highland Park and Aspinwall is the first lock and dam and is the end of pool number 1.
If you didn’t know this is a big election year and lots of money will be spent on influencing voters in the Commonwealth. Our neighboring Congresswoman is being targeted for her “radical stance” on what is going on between Israel and Hamas. Representative Summer Lee has criticized the extent of retaliation Israel has used in their search to remove Hamas from Palestine. The attack adds are everywhere on our television against her, meanwhile our US Congressional Representative has been able to fly under the radar at least until this morning.
The Sunday morning walk gave the Phoebe and Crawford a first hand view of the protests going on in the US over the war between Israel-Palestine-Hamas. If you didn’t know we live in a congressional district that is represented by a first-term representative. As the US Congress continues to send support to Israel there have been many questions raised regarding how the IDF is taking on Hamas. The creation of the State of Israel by displacing the people who lived their at the time–Post World War II–was only a new chapter into the battle for this holy land for multiple faiths. If you are celebrating Easter season you may recall that the Romans had taken over this same land during the time of Jesus. Today in our little town, there were no major events and local law enforcement responded quickly. The pups were not disturbed on their morning constitutional.
