As a follow up to our preacher-man in Kittanning, I wanted to jump to the ending of Mothman Prophecies movie. The Citizens Bridge over the Allegheny River in Kittanning was used to film the last scene. Richard Gere actually spent time in the little roadside motel along Interstate 70 in Washington county during filming. Gere’s character John Klein was being pulled into the messaging by the Mothman.
As John reaches the Silver Bridge, malfunctioning traffic lights cause traffic congestion on the bridge. Hearing the bolts and supports of the overloaded bridge straining, John realizes that the prophesied tragedy on the Ohio River was about the bridge, not the chemical plant. The bridge comes apart, and, as it collapses, Connie’s Jeep falls into the water. John jumps in after her and pulls her from the river to safety. As the two sit in the back of an ambulance, they are informed that 36 people have been killed. That makes Connie the “number 37” from her dream.

The film ends with a claim that the cause of the bridge collapse was never fully explained. The Mothman has been sighted in other parts of the world after that fateful event. However Mothman has not been spotted again in Point Pleasant.

You will notice the great view of the Armstrong County courthouse from the Citizen’s Bridge. You will also see Mr. Crawford has a building named after him, long before he was born.
The 2025 fall soccer season had me cover games near this bridge. Every trip to West Shamokin usually started with a cortado from Inpirare. Then there were a few youth games for the YMCA at the old high school field or the new high school stadium.
