What do we sing about? What has the world over the centuries put in song and dance? Do we sing about life? Do we sing about Death? Do we sing about Sadness? Do we sing about happiness? Do we sing about Epic struggles? Do we sing about War? Do you recall singing songs about Oppression of people or cultures? Do you sing for your favorite sports team? Do you sing praise to the faith that you follow? Do you see people take spiritual songs and apply them in secular settings? Why do I as this question? Maybe life leads us to sing about important moments in the human condition.
Love song?
Hope song?
Life song?
Some songs are not that simple. Life is not always that simple. Have you thought about your own wokeness lately? Have you thought about what makes you want to make the world a better place?
Are you caught up in the hustle and bustle like the little ants marching one by one?
This holiday week was a good time to take inventory of where we are, where we were and where we still want to go. Finding some time to let the mind and body rest was also key. We talked with a friend who was battling back pain. . . and we referred our friend to the Bob and Brad YouTube. If you’ve ever discussed back pain with me we usually talk about quads, hip flexors and glutes and whether you’ve been showing them the proper love and care they need to keep you going day in and day out.
Getting back to the Dave Matthews song list, here is one where questions and struggles abound. This song really does capture that spirit on a higher level. I blame completing the book “Greenlights” for picking this song. If you know where “Alright, Alright, Alright” started you know the actor.

I’ve been high
I’ve been down
My head in the clouds
And my hands in the groundIn the arms of the woman
I found my way home
And in the arms of the woman
I have been lostWhen Im so lost that this losing feels like dying
I hope you’ll be by me then
When Im so lost that this losing feels like dying
I hope you’ll be by me thenAs a young man I was afraid
Of my life
Oh what would I make
I will make Iove
What will I hate
What better sweet road will I choose to the graveAnd if I’m old ’til this oldness has me dying
I hope youll be by me then
‘Cause if I’m old ’til this oldness has me dying
I hope youll be by me thenI’m sick of you, sick of me
I’m sick of war, and I’m sick of peaceI’m sick of sound like I’m sick of silence
I grow sick of the darkness ’til I’m sick of the light
When, I’m so sick that this sickness has me dying
I hope you’ll be by me then
Well, I’m so sick that this sickness has me dying
I hope you’ll be by me then
I hope you’ll be by me thenOnce as a boy, I saw what happened
I saw them beat him down to the cold cold ground
I watched those big boys cut that man down
And I was too weak, too weak to take a standWhen, I’m so weak that this weakness has me dying
I hope you’ll be by me then
When, I’m so weak that this weakness feels like dying
I hope you’ll be by me then
But if I’m old ’til this oldness has me dying
I hope you’ll be by me then
So I will live as I see fit
And there will be those who will not like it
But in the arms of a woman
I found my way home
So to the arms of a woman
I will go
And if I’m old til this oldness has me dying
I hope you’ll be by me then
If I’m old ’til this oldness has me dyingSongwriters: David John Matthews
