This whole reflection at the end of the year thing is really funny. I’ve decide it’s time to clean up my digital draft board. I either publish it or blow it up. In finishing up items that were started months earlier it’s interesting to see if my perspective has changed with time, distance or a different angle. As a referee I understand that perspective and angle complete can change my decision on close plays. When writing time and distance often let me look at topics a little more objectively. Sometimes they don’t change things much. Stepping back to January 2024 getting back from Christmas in Destin, following up on my Dad’s shoulder, neighbor and eye, preparing for Presidents Dave— I understand why I would have started this post with a line saying:
Birthday Edition 2024
Everything this January is coming up a little bit crazy.
We dodged covid.
Celebrated some BDays. Mine, Les, Jayne, another new year in Aspinwall, a house on 2nd Street with a tree in our yard that can’t tell if it’s spring or winter. Meanwhile on first street the winter storms have the tree people back. A tree with branches so big on 1st Street was supposed to be trimmed but the right of way people are making sure it will never be a problem again. Crawford however is not a fan of the bucket truck and chainsaws behind our house.
What else was going on this month? We had a wedding to attend and help with as Rev. and preachers wife.
We Celebrated some great jazzy coffee from Maas in Ft. Walton Beach. Coffee should always be celebrated.

We managed a few Penguin games and both of the ones we attended played OT.
We’ve been battling the Annabelle cough since Christmas and finally did the steroids and chest X-ray.
We’ve officiated weddings and futsal tournaments. The wedding was in a Clubhouse at Cloverleaf and the Futsal was in Spooky Nook in 0
And we ended the month dealing with the soccer development problem bc as Kyle Wilson calls it the cash cow business vs development. If you have heard me discuss this topic you know my passion for the game and the issue I have with turning kids away from the game at early ages due to cost and professional coaches and clubs. I’m a believer in letting the game be the teacher and finding ways to make the game local and easily accessible for kids from 3 to 73.
