Do you remember graduation day? From high school, from college, from day care? Do you recall who gave the commencement speech? Do you remember any advice provided in that day by either the administrator, class leader or speaker? At this point there is little I can recall on these events, from a long time ago, but when it comes to music and people who were there for me, I do recall. . .
Music and lyrics on the other hand are usually pretty memorable. One item I hadn’t heard in a very long time popped up a few days ago and now I’d like to share.
There is a five year difference in this house. While some of us heard some experimental music during our college years, others may not have caught the following video while in high school. Recently on one of my Peloton rides with @jesskingnyc the class opened up with this little spoke word delight. I remember when it came out and twenty years later, it’s amazing how spot on this little song still is when looking back into the rear view mirror. These past 24 months of the Covid-19 pandemic world have given me a totally new look on the way I view the world each day. I realize I can only control things in my own universe and all the noise around me truly needs to be quieted so I can focus on the important items in life. I’m grateful that we were all able to get together in person during December 2021, sit on the beach, dip our toes in the water, SUP on a brackish lake and golf a handful of courses. Those moments ate truly important and real.
Here are two different video versions of Baz Lurhmann’s spoken word song. Please take a listen and let me know what you think. . .
