In sending out this year’s holiday cards and calendars I realized we’ve been posting a whole lot of lyrics from a certain artist with each calendar. IYKYK.
In working up an event for later this month, I reflected back to a much earlier card. I keep looking for a way to incorporate this card and song into the upcoming event, but I can’t quite find the right space.
We used the lyrics from Two Step in one of our cards. The past few weeks have reminded me of the importance to celebrate everything. There will be many challenges and we need to celebrate all the victories along the way.
Celebrate we will
Cause life is short
But sweet for certain
(Hey)
We climb on two by two
To be sure these days continue
Things we cannot change
If you’ve been following along the past few months– we have family members doing physical therapy for shoulders, hips, hearts, ankles and whatever else may be ailing. As our family ages recovering for life has become more important than rehabbing for sport. I’ve done more than my share of the latter, from knees, ankles, elbows and hands. What can I say from my experience:
Your relationship with your therapist needs to be more than that of a practitioner and patient. You need to put your trust in your therapist. You need to be honest with your therapist. You need to make a commitment to put in the work, to benefit you. Self maintenance is self preservation. If something hurts–say it hurts. Pain is not a badge of honor it may just mean you need to modify or require bodywork. I was reminded about the importance of a user’s manual for our body when listening to one of my normal podcasts, The Tim Ferriss show. I’ll clip the show and conversation along with a video of the exercises. Note she has modifications for surgically repaired knees and hips.
I was introduced to Dr. Sahrmann by one of my usual podcasts the Tim Ferriss Show.
If you made a new resolution from 2024 that includes moving more– take small steps and celebrate all success along the way. I will not judge or comment if you are new to the gym. If I pop in to give guidance it’s only because I don’t want you to hurt yourself. Otherwise embrace the journey and take it one day at a time. After several years of maintenance program, I’m committing to lifting heavy shit again and mastering my quadraped time, while Phoebe and Crawford master their head and mouth kisses.
If you’ve made a new resolution for 2024 and it includes nutrition, I have been intrigued by one pricey out of pocket data project introduced by LEVELS. I’ve not yet to commit. Knowing my family medical history, I’m more than intrigued to see my relationship with what I eat using data points, I’ve just not yet jumped. Would you wear a CGM if it could give you a better understanding of the statement–YOU ARE WHAT YOU Eat?
I find this even more important now seeing how the people at weight watchers are changing their program at this time. If you need a certain drug for your medical treatment, the new approach may not make you completely happy.
I’ll stick to the four-legged cardio team for now and try to eat smarter, until I decide to add the new tool. That four legged team really helps me stay grounded:
- Get Sweaty Daily
- Get Out in Nature
- Meditate with belly rubs and more belly breaths.
